When outdoor-clothing pioneer Patagonia ran a full-page ad in the New York Times that read “Don’t Buy This Jacket” on the biggest shopping day of the year – Black Friday – they made a bold move. The move wasn't meant to shock; it was to point out the often unnoticed environmental cost of any new product. They suggested customers only buy a new jacket if they really needed one. This public commitment to their environmental values increased revenue and made customers fans for life.
When Green Century Capital Management made the then-unheard-of decision to offer diversified mutual funds that were completely fossil fuel free – they made a bold move. But they were among the first to prove, and continue to demonstrate today, that these types of funds not only create competitive financial returns for individuals, they positively affect the environment for future generations.
Two successful companies. Two bold decisions that showed the world
what can happen when you align your financial initiatives with your values.
What will be your bold move?
You're invited to join us for a special evening with Leslie Samuelrich, President of Green Century Capital Management, and Vincent Stanley, Patagonia’s Director of Philosophy, as we discuss how we can spend or invest in ways that make noticeable differences in our communities. This one-time event will include brief talks by our guests, a moderated panel discussion, and a Q&A session. Doors open at 5:30 pm, with light refreshments available, and the talk starts at 6:00 pm.
