Make A Difference, Magnify Your Impact

February 28, 2023/in Blog, Community Impact Investing/by Earth Equity Advisors

As an SRI investor, you’ve made a conscious choice to align your investments with your values. Philanthropy, like investing, is another important piece of your sustainable lifestyle. By donating your time, skills, and money to local nonprofits you can magnify your impact for the greater good of your community.

So, how much greater is the contribution of one when amplified by a community of like-minded movers and shakers? What’s possible when a group of women come together to give-back mindfully? The founders of 100+ Women Who Care Asheville found out.

In October 2020, Leesa Sluder and Kerry Keihn, with the support of Earth Equity Advisors, launched a giving circle with its first 50 women, each responsible for a quarterly $100 donation. Members have nominated Western North Carolina non-profit organizations, held regular meetings, and cast votes to focus their donations. In just two years, they have placed over $50,000 directly into the caring hands of eight nonprofits serving Western North Carolina—$40,463 from the women who care and a matching grant of $11,842 from the Schulze Family Foundation.

These grants, for example, have helped a survivor of domestic violence start a new life, hired a bilingual tenant navigator, and enhanced research to ensure the survival of the honeybee. Recipients to date include:

  • Bounty & Soul
  • Literacy Together
  • Arms Around ASD
  • BeLoved Asheville
  • Mountain Child Advocacy Center
  • Western North Carolina Superheroes
  • Western North Carolina Center for Honeybee Research
  • Thrive Asheville

“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.” – Marian Wright

Your SRI investments provide you with the potential to achieve financial growth whilst simultaneously moving our society forward—a valued complement to your philanthropic giving. And, oftentimes, you’ll find those opportunities right in your own backyard. To see if your local community has a chapter of the 100 Who Care Alliance, click here. We’d also like to encourage you to check out the many giving opportunities available through Grapevine.
