Texas Senate Bill 8 Cannot Be Tolerated

Earth Equity firmly believes in a woman’s right to make her own healthcare choices. The draconian law enacted in Texas recently severely limits a woman’s right to choose and creates a perilous environment for healthcare providers by giving individual citizens the right to interfere in a patient’s private decisions. It legalizes vigilante justice by placing a $10,000 bounty on anyone who helps someone obtain an abortion in Texas.

The Texas bill’s misogynistic view of rape and incest puts the onus of these crimes on the survivor. The bill disproportionately affects low income, communities of color and immigrant communities who normally do not have the resources to travel out of state for reproductive health services. It will force women to seek procedures in dangerous backroom locations. Instead of focusing on the health of their citizens, Texas politicians have chosen to pander to the extremist members of their voter base. This cannot be tolerated. The bottom line is that this bill will not end abortions in Texas. It will end safe abortions in Texas.

Earth Equity calls on all large and publicly traded corporations doing business in Texas to strongly condemn this bill and urges them to reach out to members of the Texas legislature to repeal SB 8. In the absence of a repeal, we recommend these corporations begin preparations to move their operations out of Texas. There needs to be economic consequences for bills like Texas SB 8.

Earth Equity has made a $1,000 donation to Texas Abortion Funds to help ensure Texans have access to abortion care. We invite you to join us by making your donation here or visit this article for 8 things you can do right now to help abortion rights activists in Texas.
