Inclusion & the Next Economy: A Solutions Based Conversation

It’s time for our fifth annual Speaker Series, and we are absolutely thrilled with our guests.

We want to introduce them to you before the big night.

Nzinga Shaw is currently the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of the Atlanta Hawks & Philips Arena. She is the first person to hold this position in the National Basketball Association. In her role, Shaw is responsible for developing and embedding diversity and inclusion best practices throughout the organization. She has designed a strategic, cross-departmental program that creates deeper cultural awareness and sensitivity. Additionally, Shaw serves as a member of the Executive Committee and provides guidance to the leadership team so that they can engender inclusivity in every facet of the business.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Hawks & Philips Arena, Shaw has been at the forefront of leading organizational change through diversity. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Edelman, the world’s largest and most profitable public relations agency. Simultaneously, she led the human resources function for Edelman’s southeast and southwest regions. She also worked in human resources at Essence Magazine, the Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network, and the National Football League. Shaw is also on the Board of Directors of the National Black Public Relations Society and the Georgia Diversity Council. She is an alumna of Spelman College, the University of Pennsylvania, and was a study abroad scholar at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Her academic settings have enabled her to experience rich diversity while studying among a wide array of individuals hailing from all around the globe.

Betsy Moszeter is a partner and the COO at Green Alpha Advisors, where she ensures the firm successfully serves an expanding client base at the highest levels possible. She also oversees the firm’s business development activities, and is a key Investment Committee member. Importantly, she leads the team’s diversity-oriented research activities and portfolio construction of Green Alpha’s Next Economy Social Index. The portfolio was launched in 2015 to leverage Green Alpha’s insights from the growing body of research showing that diverse teams outperform homogenous teams in a variety of material ways. The Social Index offers investors the powerful one-two punch of investing in the most innovative, sustainability-driven companies led by the most diverse leadership teams.

Originally from Eugene, OR, Betsy earned a B.S. from the University of Oregon’s Charles H. Lundquist College of Business. She received her MBA from The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia through the MBA for Executives program, working full-time at TAMRO on the firm’s daily operations and participating in a management-led buyout of the firm—all while completing the advanced degree in 18 months. She is now a proud member of Darden’s Alumni Board of Directors. Betsy moved from Washington, DC to Boulder in 2013, because of her love of hiking and the great outdoors.
